INSIDE-OUT B&h
sTREET ART EXHIBITION

About the project

“Inside-Out B&H” street art exhibition is a part of the global artistic project “Inside Out”. The aim of this project was to create a positive atmosphere in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, by promoting people’s similarities and what unites them human beings, rather than what makes them divided and different.

CONTEXT

The driving force of organizing such a project is the past of B&H, where, although the war ended ¸in 1995, consequences of differences are taking a toll in the society. Social media makes it easier and possible for the community to divide, pointing out differences instead of similarities between residents.

Inside Out is a global participatory art project whose goal is to send a strong message to the world by presenting portraits of different people, initiated by French photographer JR: “if we don’t know anything about people, we don’t have the right to judge them”. After winning the TED prize in 2011, JR expressed a wish to change the world by turning it “inside out”. Since 2015 over 127 countries have participated in the project and more than 250.000 portraits have been taken.

The project sent a strong message:

We are different, but we are authentic and united in emotions.

What have we achieved?

The Inside-Out exhibition succeeded in  drawing the attention on cohesion and unity of B&H youth. The portraits were displayed in August 2018 in Strosmajerova street in Sarajevo.

Our approach in providing different and optimistic perspectives was very positively accepted in the local community. We received positive feedback and support from those who visited and participated in the exhibition, which inspired us to continue our work in B&H by delivering HARMONY Project in 2021.
